In a time when the label Doctor, Reverend, Bishop and Leader are simply given not earned, many times by the person to themselves, we need to know why Dr. Thomas Sowell is such a great man.
When I was young, everyone had a nickname. And you got your nickname from your friends. The rule of thumb was that you cannot give yourself a nickname. Skip ahead a decade or two and now many folks are calling themselves Doctor, Bishop and several have taken to branding themselves “leader”.
Dr. Thomas Sowell, is a real doctor. He earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago un Friedman and Stigler. He is a distinguished scholar and Author and he actually knows economics and has written several best-selling books on the subject. His “Basic Economics” published in 2000 is in its 5th edition. That’s 5 in 16 years. We have so called “leaders” who have written tracts or booklets and peddle them on the bookstore tour while speaking about the newest fad in Black America. Dr. Sowell is the “Leader” Black America never had a chance to follow. He is who and what Black America needed and we never had a chance to select him and in my opinion it was because he was a
His data driven, carefully researched exposing of progressive lies about everything from crime to gender pay to the historical study of the behavior of poor people around the world is what we don’t see anywhere in our community. We see grand expressions of ‘truths” which have no basis in facts but instead sound good.
"The fraudulence of the left's concern about poverty is exposed by their utter lack of interest in ways of increasing the nation's wealth."
Dr. Sowell was born in the South but raised in Harlem and left home early, took night classes to graduate from High School and joined the Marines. He served and came home and “pulled himself up by the bootstraps” and went to college on the GI Bill. First to Howard then transferred to Harvard. He has stated that he was a Marxist and became a conservative after he got a job at the Department of Labor and saw that Government was not the answer.
Dr. Sowell is a gifted thinker and Jason Riley says it best “Sowell asked questions others wouldn’t”. That to me is what makes the genius in anyone-people who ask the question that is not obvious or people who see what could be there and find it.
My advice to you, dear reader, is read Dr. Thomas Sowell. Get an idea of what he is saying. See the numbers which don’t lie and draw your own conclusion. But to tell me you read “The New Jim Crow” or “The Conspiracy to Destroy Black boys” and never have read Sowell tells me you have a limited knowledge base and probably are not worth talking to about issues. That was harsh but I was trying to make a point.
“I have never understood why it is "greed" to want to keep the money you have earned but not greed to want to take somebody else's money.”
“The first lesson of economics is scarcity: There is never enough of anything to satisfy all those who want it. The first lesson of politics is to disregard the first lesson of economics.”
“The problem isn't that Johnny can't read. The problem isn't even that Johnny can't think. The problem is that Johnny doesn't know what thinking is; he confuses it with feeling.”
“The most basic question is not what is best, but who shall decide what is best.”
